Well on the way

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Hello all you Rice Solar Decathlon fans,

This is the first of (hopefully) many such blogs to update you on the kinds of things we’ve been working on thus far in order to build a rockin’ Zerow House.  At the beginning of the semester our class, made up of mostly architects, engineers, and a few economics and policy majors, broke up into teams.  Each team is working on one of the numerous pieces that are required to plan, fund, build, and share a project like this one.

Two teams that have gotten a lot of work on their plates at the moment are those that are responsible for developing a good chassis design and getting a site approved to build the house right on campus.  Other teams are creating elevations and systems drawings, working out weight for transportation at the end of the day, finding products and materials for the inside, compiling sponsors who want to be a part this endeavor, and putting together more information for the website.

It’s looking to be an exciting and productive semester.  Keep on the lookout for more updates soon to come!
